Thesis monitoring committee
Article 6 of the doctoral charter, co-signed by the doctoral student, his/her thesis director and the research unit director, explicitly sets out a procedure for monitoring the research project.
The monitoring committee, as amended by the decree of August 26, 2022, applies to all doctoral students from January 01, 2023.
The ED GRNE Board has decided to set up a monitoring committee to support doctoral students and their supervisors in monitoring their doctoral project, and has adopted the following procedure:
- The composition of this committee is defined by the thesis supervisor(s) and is proposed to and approved by the Doctoral School management.
- It must include at least one HDR representative from the ED-GRNE and an expert from outside the doctoral student's project and research unit.
It must meet prior to re-registration, and every year thereafter.
It must take place between June 2024 and October 2024, and must not block registration.
The request for a derogation to re-register in 4th year must be accompanied by the positive opinion of the CSI.
For each meeting, the doctoral student must prepare at least :
- A 15-20 page manuscript, outlining the progress of the work and prospects for the remainder of the doctoral contract. At the end of the first year, this manuscript should show that the doctoral student has taken control of his or her subject, identified the problem and put it into the context of the state of the art. The manuscript for the second-year meeting will focus on the prospect of the first publication required for the defense presentation, and on the timetable for the final year of the thesis. The manuscript will be sent to CSI members and thesis supervisors one week in advance.
- A 15-30 minute presentation outlining the written document and launching the discussion.
The interview must necessarily include an initial in camera discussion between the CSI members and the doctoral student, and a second with the supervisory team.
At the end of the meetings, the ED representative will draw up a report of the exchanges (see documents below), and enter it into the management tool.
The interview must necessarily include an initial closed discussion between the members of the CSI and the doctoral student, and a second with the supervisory team.
The ED representative will draw up a report of the exchanges (see documents below) at the end of the meetings, and enter it into the management tool ADUM.
